Maggie #5
Maggie is now one year old (five issues in a year, must be a record!) and to celebrate Spaz paints the most eye watering menu picture yet seen. It's the summer lull and the demos review section is comparitively empty. The big game of the issue is TCB's "Enchanted Land", but the reviewer too overwhelmed by the amazing engine to deliver a balanced view on the gameplay. It's still one of the most technically stunning games on the ST, but how many people played this for an extended period of time? Elsewhere, BAT and its MV-16 soundcard are praised by CIH and MrPink delivers a long and tedious review of Kick Off 2. Still a great game though. The Mega STE is reviewed - "a well created and fast machine". There is a really cool atari scene database built into the shell, simply type in the name of a demo/hacking crew and it displays info about them. Nice. The tutorials sections goes all "high level on our ass", which tips for GFA Basic, STOS and even Pascal, but no assembly stuff. Oliver Greensmith explains how to make a career on your ST. There is another review of ICE Packer (!) and the news section is dominated by the fact that the next editions of both ICE and Automation packer may have GEM front ends. Hold the front page. This issue also features an intro from an unusual source - Poland. These were the first signs of life from a country that would go on to dominate the Atari scene in the late 90s.
